Lt. Col. Sam Sharpe

Lt. Col. Sam Sharpe, bronze (2018), 120% life size, Uxbridge

Unveiled on May 25, 2018

The Sam Sharpe statue was unveiled on May 25, 2018 – the 100th anniversary of his death. The ceremony included a military parade, the attendance of many veterans, and representation of senior military officers and politicians, as well as a large community crowd.

Dear Mary

The letter in his hand begins “Dear Mary”. Col. Sharpe wrote to the family of each man who died. The statue shows him agonizing over how to tell Mary Walton that her husband (Sharpe’s best friend) has been killed.

The plaque tells the poignant story of Col. Sharpe, and how he is, finally, recognized as a true hero.
